This morning I had to try and treat a guy who fell 7 stories off a balcony in my hotel. I mean I'm only trained in basic first aid. There was not much I could do other then put some gauze on his bleeding held and tell him to lie still till the EMT's got there. All these years working there I've walked by that balcony and wondered what it would be like to fall from there. Well I really didn't like the reality of having to see it. I have no idea how I'm gonna be able to sleep today and then go back to work tonight. I guess it's a good thing I have my prescription sleeping pills. All my years there and I thought I had seen it all. If people had seen what I've seen they'd know exactly why I don't drink anymore.Current Mood: distressed

My department has been short of staff all summer. I haven't worked this much by myself since I first started. Now they're starting to loosen up on the no OT policy. One of our long time 1st shifters looks like he won't be back as he had a stroke. That was really kinda freaky news to me as he's one of the healthiest persons I know. Big time runner, ran marathons regularly. The only health problem he ever had was his good cholesterol levels were too low. For once they're not pushing my supervisor to overstaff, which is what they usually do. So this week I have 52 hours and come Sept. I could be working 56 hours every week. They will probably only last a couple of months till they cut hours at the start of the off season. I'll take what I can get though. |

on the website I run for the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of RI I have a directory of members. I put some basic security on it to help protect the names and addresses. You have to e-mail me to request a password. In over a year no one has ever asked me for it until yesterday and the 1st thing that happens is that he finds this huge hole in my security. Friggin google lists the exact address of the directory if you search one of the e-mail addresses, it allowed you to bypass the logon page. So I had to change the address of the directory and all the associated links which was a real pain as all the source code is encrypted. Then I set it up so it bounces you to the logon page if you try to go directly to the directory address. I thought that just hiding the exact address from being shown on the site would be enough I guess I should have known that google could screw that up. Live and learn I guess, anyway anyone with some programing experience could hack through it probably it's only meant to keep the casual browser out.Current Mood: annoyed

Well after a 3 day fever I'm finally feeling better. Just in time to go to work tonight, lucky me. |
|
Lyme disease really seems to be bad this year. At least 2 people I know have it and it's really serious they're talking never damage. Now I have it, I went out to cut the grass yesterday and felt fine and by the time I went to bed that afternoon I was spiking a 101 degree fever. The worst part of it is that I had to go to work because it was my last night before my days off and if I called off I would've lost my holiday. I didn't mess around this morning though I went straight to the doctors office. The place was packed, I had decided to let my fever spike so the doctor could see it. That was a mistake an hour and a half later when they took it it was up over 102. This is so ironic, it's the 1st 4th of July I've had off in like 9 years and I get deathly ill.Current Mood: sick

just bought a new HP laptop with my tax rebate. I love it it's got a 17 inch screen with dual hard drives and a centrino duo 2.2 ghz processor. I bought it refurbished so I saved about $300. The screens gonna take some getting used to though as it's a wide screen so I get a lot of extra space on most websites. I also bought this cool wireless mouse, it's called an air mouse and can be used on any surface or by just moving it around in the air. I bought it refurbished to and saved about $40. I'm happy then I have been in quite some time :)

I found a wallet with a few hundred $$ in it tonight, it would have been so easy to just pocket the cash and throw the wallet away, no one would've ever known. I couldn't do it though, I had to track down the owner and return it to them :P

| » where have I been? |
I haven't posted to my LJ in quite some time because I really haven't had that much good news and I felt like it was turning into my own personal ranting page, but since it's mine I guess it can be whatever I want it to be so here comes some more ranting. I came down with pneumonia last week after going to a superbowl party. I though I just had the flu and kept going to work with a 101 fever but after a couple of days I felt like I was going to die so I went the the Dr. and he said no more work for you for a week. Then just the other night Barb calls me at work to tell me it's raining in our living room. Our 3rd floor neighbor turned off his heat and one of his pipes froze and burst raining water all the way down to our apt on the 1st floor. I guess the 2nd floor got it even worse their ceiling collapsed. Well now on Monday they're coming to rip out our walls and ceilings and I'm supposed to sleep that morning for a huge degree I have to do that night. I decided to just stay at the hotel that day, Barbs staying at her sisters. Then I have a chapter to install on Wednesday and then a large part for the Scottish Rite next week. People wonder why I'm always getting sick. My brain is like mush and I'm always tired but that's life I guess.

| » Big Announcement |
Yes I have been gone from my LJ for some time now but that's because I got married a month ago. I've been so busy it's been ridiculous. Barb and I drove to VA then fl for our honeymoon. On our way I home I got caught in the worst traffic jam in NJ I've ever been in, 3 hours. I hurt my back 2 weeks ago and was out of work for a week this week I came down with a sinus infection. My masonic commitments have only gotten worse. I had though my 1st time installing a chapter was going to be this month but last month I was told they had changed the meeting and I had 2 weeks to memorize this massive installation ceremony. I did that on a Thursday I then had to give a presentation at another lodge on Fri. then another degree festival on a Sat. That's how its been going with me.

I feel like I'm on auto pilot. I'm so busy every week and so tired from lack of sleep. I have a big degree this Wed. and I don't even care. Another degree next week and Grand Lodge. Then down to CT for Grand Chapter. I'm also working 50+ hours every week because were short and there are a lot of proms this year. I have a hiking trip to NH planned for the end of June and it just can't get here fast enough. Ahh just the thought of the grueling trails with 50 lb. on my back. Yes I guess I am a bit of a masochist. I got a call today from my lodge asking me why I didn't donate blood, they had a blood drive. Considering I barely made it home without falling asleep at the wheel, I didn't think giving blood was a wise thing to do that day.

| » Chapter website |
I came up with this idea to post pictures of the Grand Chapter officers on our website. So I coded a page and got all the pictures, but then when I e-mailed the webmaster I got hit with what I figured was coming. He wanted me to take over the entire site. I was kinda expecting this so I had already cached all the pages. So I just changed the image and links and posted them onto a cox site I created for them. Of course I had a few changes I wanted to try, like putting up a calendar, re-doing the officers page with pictures, etc. Well I don't know what was used to make these pages put the code was a mess. P and UL opening and closing all over for no apparent reason, FONT tags calling for black when the text is already defaulted to black. Empty tables for no reason, not even for spacing. With the simpler pages I just started from scratch, however I'm still cleaning up the code and tweaking the other pages. I only have one more page to really clean, html is so much fun. http://members.cox.net/riroyalarch

The masons can really eat up a lot of your time. Last weekend I was installed as the Grand Principle Sojourner of RI. This week I have the main part in the 25th degree at the Scottish Rite. I'm on a committee to plan to move a Council into my Royal Arch chapter. I'm still planning Royal Arch degree festival for the state in June. Oh I also got a new responsibility. I redesigned a couple of the pages from the RI Royal Arch site and got approval to submit them to the webmaster. Well guess what? I'm now the new webmaster so I got to redo the entire site. I'm also supposed to be taking over as the webmaster for the Grand Council page also. I already have that one up and running but I need the Grand Masters approval before I have the Yorkrite.org redirect to it. If you interested the Royal Arch link is below. Check out the officers page I put in pics of everyone, that was my big idea that got me into this mess.

| » heating oil |
well I wasn't expecting this little cold spell we're having so I ran my oil tank dry. I was really stuck too as I don't have the $240 to get 100 gallons of heating oil. Well I did some research because I was preparing to have to prime the furnace and I read that you could use diesel in a pinch. Well I went out and bought 10 gallons of diesel and poured it in, a very messy job. I'm still a little paranoid about this but from what I've read diesel and heating oil are the same thing except diesels cleaner and taxed more. So from what I've read diesel is actually better to burn then heating oil. So there will be no cold showers in my future however I'm still going to go apply for a one time heating assistance, if I can get 100 gallons that should last me a long time as I use a kerosene heater for most of my heat. I only went through 200 gallons this winter and that's for heat & hot water.

| » Car crunched |
I crashed my car yesterday. I was going out to get my laundry in the morning came around a corner hit a patch of black ice and side swiped a caddy. My left blinker disintegrated, I broke the bracket that holds my left headlight and it doesn't work anymore and I tore a chunk out of my front left quarter panel. I smashed the drivers door of the caddy and flattened 2 of the tires. The lady I hit went out in the ambulance the police said she was mainly just shaken up. I guess the good part is that my car is still drivable, no mechanical damage except for the lights and the police didn't give me a ticket as they said the road conditions made it unavoidable. I nearly got hit when I got out of the car to check on the lady as another car slid out of control in the same place. If we hadn't backed up traffic on that corner I'm sure somebody else would've crashed as I saw at least 5 cars skid out on that corner while I was waiting for the police. The real bummer is that I just dropped my collision coverage 2 months ago to save $$ so I'm really screwed as I have no way to get it fixed. I'm hoping I can just get the lights fixed and replace the quarter with one from the boneyard later on down the road. What I really want for my b-day this year is to hit the lottery, it doesn't have to be the jackpot, just enough to buy a new car ;-)

Last night I was in the 16th degree as Zerrububel. I guess I did a pretty good job because they asked me to take the part of Ben Franklin for the 25th degree in April. They've never done this degree in my valley and this is the top part, it's called the Ben Franklin degree. I guess I have to brush up on my old man persona as he's 82 years old in the degree. I'll have to make sure I get a picture of this one.

Tonight I was elected to be the Grand Principle Sojourner of Rhode Island. This mean that I will eventually be the Grand High Priest of RI. I'm really excited, my installation will be in April. Next week I head to Albany for NY Grand Chapter session. I haven't been there since I visited x_bluerose_x about 6 years ago.
